Older Russians Can Verify Benefit Eligibility via MAX Messenger

Pensioners will no longer need to present paper documents.

Older people in Russia can now confirm their pensioner status without paper documents. To do so, they only need to scan a QR code generated in the MAX messenger, the platform’s press service said.

The change is expected to make it easier for seniors to receive social discounts in stores. X5 Group was the first retailer to introduce the simplified verification system. The technology was successfully tested in two stores in Moscow. Starting in early March, it will be available at self-checkout kiosks across all Perekrestok and Pyaterochka grocery stores.

The Chatbot Lineup Is Expanding

In September last year, the national messenger introduced a feature that allows users to verify their age when purchasing age-restricted goods. The technology has since been rolled out to more than 40,000 stores at self-checkout counters.

Among more recent updates, the MAX app launched a chatbot called Tsifrovoi Region (Digital Region). The bot provides information about various projects being implemented in the Moscow Region and other parts of Russia. Russian Post has also introduced a chatbot in the messenger aimed at small and medium-sized businesses. The digital tool simplifies sending letters and parcels, reserving post office boxes, requesting courier services, and handling other tasks.

In addition, Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade is considering allowing shoppers to take part in retail loyalty programs through the MAX messenger.
