Power grid operator Rosseti has begun developing a new autonomous inspection drone. Its primary mission will be to monitor the security and physical protection of the company's power transmission infrastructure.

The drone will be designed to detect unauthorized modifications to transmission towers – from structural tampering to the placement of explosive devices – as well as identify broken power lines and the presence of unauthorized individuals within protected zones. The system will also be capable of building databases of facial images and vehicle license plates. AI-powered analytics will support onboard cameras and thermal imaging systems, while autonomous operation will be enabled through dedicated drone docking stations.

Rosseti said all software used in the system must either be developed in Russia or be based on open-source technologies. Foreign software components will be permitted only with formal justification and approval.

The project will be developed in compliance with cybersecurity requirements established by FSTEC and in line with Rosseti's corporate import substitution strategy.
