In Russia, Teachers Are Set to Master AI Technologies and Apply Them in the Classroom

Educators in the Orenburg region have begun intensive training in working with neural networks.

A large-scale project to introduce artificial intelligence tools into education has launched in Russia’s Orenburg region. The initiative aims to bring teaching quality up to a modern digital standard and support teachers’ professional development through advanced digital technologies.

Intensive Training

Staff from the Orenburg Region Institute for Education Development, along with heads of regional subject-specific teacher associations, are taking part in an intensive training program titled “Using Artificial Intelligence Tools to Improve Teaching Quality and Teachers’ Professional Development.” The program focuses on hands-on use of AI in everyday classroom practice.

The courses are taught by experts from SberObrazovanie, including PhD in education Svetlana Antonova and master’s degree holder in pedagogy Nadezhda Likhosherst. Both are authors of methodological guidelines for the digital service “Teacher’s Assistant,” which they are introducing to the certified participants.

Balancing Theory and Practice

The training program is designed to combine theory with practical application. Participants work through real-world scenarios, with a focus on current education trends such as artificial intelligence, personalized learning, and new teaching technologies that can be introduced gradually without overburdening educators.

Svetlana Krupina, director of the Institute for Education Development, stressed that artificial intelligence is meant to support teachers rather than replace them.

“Artificial intelligence is becoming an integral part of our everyday reality. Our task is not to reject it or look for its shortcomings, but to understand its potential and learn how to use AI as an intellectual assistant that enhances a teacher’s professionalism rather than replaces it,” she said.

From Trainees to Mentors

After completing the program, institute staff and association leaders will become regional mentors, passing their new skills on to other educators across the region. In total, organizers plan to train 2,300 teachers, teaching methodologists, and deputy school principals to work with AI-based tools.

According to the project’s organizers, the initiative will help embed artificial intelligence into education in a systematic way, turning it into a practical tool for improving learning quality and solving teachers’ professional challenges.
