Russian Expert Joins UN Panel on Artificial Intelligence

The United Nations is forming an Independent International Scientific Panel on AI, with one representative from Russia.

The United Nations is establishing a new body, the Independent International Scientific Panel on Artificial Intelligence, which includes one Russian member, according to a statement from Sber. Andrey Neznamov, who heads Sber’s Center for Human-Centered Artificial Intelligence and the National Commission on AI Ethics, will serve on the panel. In his UN role, he will assess the impact, risks and opportunities associated with artificial intelligence.

Global Governance Questions

The panel will consolidate global expertise on AI to deepen understanding of the technology’s potential and the challenges it may pose at the international level. The body includes 40 members from around the world, including scientists, engineers, AI developers, IT company specialists and experts in digital rights and technology ethics. The panel’s findings will inform decision-making at the global level on AI governance.

According to Sber’s press service, the Russian expert will contribute to discussions on applying AI in the real sector of the economy.
