Russian Investigators Step Up Fight Against Cybercrime With Advanced Technologies
Advanced search tools and artificial intelligence are helping authorities track suspects even when they operate from abroad.

Russian investigators are using modern technologies to identify and pursue cybercriminals, even when they act from outside the country, Investigative Committee head Alexander Bastrykin told Interfax. The agency has signed cooperation agreements and, together with operational services from other countries, is tackling what officials describe as one of today’s major public risks.
You Can’t Escape AI
A number of software solutions were developed in-house by the agency’s specialists. One dedicated facial recognition program matches a suspect’s image against hours of video footage from surveillance systems. Manually reviewing such material could take days, but the software can identify a person in minutes. According to officials, the technology accelerates investigations by dozens of times. At the same time, Bastrykin emphasized that artificial intelligence is an additional tool designed to assist human investigators.
Over the past three years, the Investigative Committee has handled 36,600 cases involving crimes committed using digital technologies. In addition to fraud, these include theft, illegal trafficking of prohibited substances, and other offenses.
