Russian Substation to Receive Digital Protection
Rosseti to equip Kuzbass facility with self-diagnostic microprocessor systems

Rosseti will upgrade equipment at the 220 kV Krasnopolyanskaya substation in the Kemerovo region, investing more than 560 million rubles (approximately $6.7 million) in the project.
Digital Protection Replaces Outdated Systems
The substation supplies electricity to about 90,000 residents of Leninsk-Kuznetsky and five coal mines. It will now be fitted with modern Russian-made relay protection and automation systems.
Specialists from Rosseti’s Siberian backbone grid branch will install 59 microprocessor cabinets to replace older equipment. The new systems offer greater precision, support multiple functions simultaneously and are capable of self-diagnostics.
The digital protection systems will safeguard two autotransformers with a combined capacity of 250 MVA and 14 transmission lines rated at 110–220 kV. These include two transit lines through which the Belovskaya power plant transmits electricity to northern parts of the Kemerovo region.
For an Industrial Region
Kuzbass remains one of Russia’s key coal-producing regions, making stable power supply critical for both mining operations and urban life. The substation upgrade is expected to strengthen grid reliability and reduce the risk of outages.
Company representatives noted that this is not the first infrastructure modernization project in the region. Earlier, Rosseti upgraded another substation supplying mines in northern Kuzbass.
The Rosseti Group includes 39 subsidiaries and affiliated companies, among them 17 grid operators. The modernization of the Krasnopolyanskaya substation is part of the company’s broader digital transformation strategy aimed at improving the technological reliability of the power system.
