A machine vision-equipped industrial robotic manipulator has begun operating at the Chamzinskaya poultry plant in Russia's Republic of Mordovia. Its task is to transfer product trays into shipping containers. The computer vision system evaluates the condition of each package and checks for the required labeling. Each inspection takes only a few thousandths of a second.

During a single shift, the robot handles up to 25 metric tons of finished products, replacing the manual work of several employees. The automation is helping the company address labor shortages.

The company says the robotic manipulator is an entirely Russian-developed system. Engineers designed all of its mechanical components and developed the software that powers it. According to the manufacturer, the robot outperforms many foreign counterparts in both speed and accuracy. The poultry plant plans to deploy several more robotic manipulators in the near future to free employees from routine tasks.
